BLU
BLU the mixtape is in the works you guys. This will be my second mixtape and will be recorded and funded by Turntine Entertainment. People often ask me what BLU stands for. Originally it stood for "Because Love is Undefined", but as I continued to write for the project I realized that BLU really stands for "Because Love is You".
There are so many times we accept people for who they are and their behaviors that we label that as love. Emotional abuse isn't just hurtful words, it can also be constant cheating and lying over and over again. However, we are so in love with the idea of being with one person that we mistake that poor behavior as love. We create these false ideas of what love is to excuse the behavior. This mixtape isn't to pass judgement, it is simply here to just show the different types of love that are out there.
On July 30, 2018 I released the first track to the mixtape "The Introduction". This single starts off with a scene from the hit movie Fences. You hear the sounds of Denzel Washington and Viola Davis going back and fourth, following that you will hear the sultry vocals of myself. All of the lyrics are originally written by myself. My favorite lyric from this song is " My love will hurt me more than you will hurt me". This line was meant to tell the one reciprocating my love, that I know loving you will hurt me. I don't care because I want to love you and the fact I want to love even when everything says no is why I keep getting hurt. This song ends the same way it started with Viola Davis telling her husband how she sometimes thought about doing what he does to her because he has neglected her wants and needs.
I feel like this mixtape will be different from Irony because there is no hard front with these songs. I want BLU to be an open book. I want my listeners to see that I can be vulnerable while also having the hard shell I have in Irony. I love seeing the music come together, and I can't wait to see how you all respond to it.
